Alhambra Museum (Palace of Carlos V)

The Alhambra Museum is on the south wing of the lower level of the Palace. Dedicated to the Hispano-Muslim culture and art it is divided into seven rooms in chronological order. It was established in 1870 in order to watch over the numerous archaeological evidences gathered by the Provincial Comission of Monuments.  In 1994 came under the authority of the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife.

Permanent exhibition

  • Hall I: Science, faith and economy.
  • Hall II: Emirate and caliphal Period.
  • Hall III A: Caliphal architectural decoration.
  • Hall III B: Art from the Taifas to the Nasrids
  • Hall IV: Nasrid period. Public buildings .
  • Hall V: Nasrid period. The Alhambra and other city palaces.
  • Hall VI: Nasrid period. The rauda. Sumptuous ceramics.
  • Hall VII A: Nasrid period. The decoration and household items.
  • Hall VII B: Nasrid art. The Alhambra, material culture

    • From 8:30 to 14:30. Sundays and Tuesdays

Museum of Fine Arts (Palace of Carlos V)

The Museum of Fine Arts occupies the upper level of the Palace. Its vast collections include Grenadine sculptures and paintings from 15th to the 20th century, masterpieces of Baroque, Neoclassicism, Romanticism and grenadine paintings from nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

  • Hall IV: Secular painting of the 17th century
  • Hall V: The 19th century

Entrance Fee

  • Price: 1,50 €.
  • Free admission for European Union citizens, students with International Cards, ICOM Members, over 65 year-old, pensioners and people with a disability of at least 33%.
  • School and group visits: by appointment.

 

Museum of Ángel Barrios (Calle Real, next to the Mosque Baths)

Museum is dedicated to grenadine composer and guitarist Angel Barrios (1882-1964). The exhibition features personal memorabilia, furniture and paintings from the private collection of the musician.

  • Monday to Sunday
  • From October 15th to March 14th: 8:30 to 20:00
  • From March 15th to October 14th: 8:30 to 18:00
