The Alhambra returns to normal with the reopening of the Alcazaba

The Alhambra returns to normal with the reopening of the Alcazaba. Since 23 September, this area has once again formed part of the visitor route through the monumental complex and is open to the public as usual.

The reopening follows the inspections carried out after the series of earthquakes recorded in Granada during August. On 15 August, an initial earthquake led to preventive checks being carried out at the monument. On 18 August, a new earthquake measuring 4.8 in magnitude, followed by several aftershocks, led to the preventive evacuation of the Alhambra and its temporary closure.

Following the inspections carried out by the technical teams of the Alhambra and Generalife Board of Trustees, no structural damage affecting safety has been detected. The damage identified is limited to some non-structural and decorative elements. These elements are currently being inspected and treated as part of the monument's conservation work.

The Alhambra can therefore be enjoyed with peace of mind. The measures implemented allow the monumental complex to remain open while ensuring the safety of visitors and the preservation of its heritage.

The Alcazaba welcomes visitors again

Since its reopening, the Alcazaba has followed a slightly adapted route compared with the usual visitor itinerary. These adjustments have been made for conservation, safety and visitor management purposes.

At present, the Torre de la Vela remains temporarily closed while technical inspections continue. The rest of the Alcazaba is once again open to visitors. The route includes areas such as the Plaza de Armas, the Barrio Castrense, the Terrace of the Puerta de las Armas and the Jardín de los Adarves.

This route allows visitors to rediscover the ancient defensive structures of the Nasrid palace city. Its walls also offer some of the most characteristic views of Granada.

The rest of the monumental complex had already reopened to the public on 19 August, following the initial inspections. Since then, the different areas have gradually returned to their usual visitor routes.
