The Alhambra is hosting "El cielo de cristal", a temporary exhibition by painter Eduardo Roca. The exhibition is organised by the Alhambra and Generalife Council in collaboration with the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation. It was presented on 3 July.
The exhibition features 29 works. Twelve paintings are displayed in the Empress Hall of the Palace of Charles V. The remaining 17 works can be visited at the Carmen Blanco of the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation.
These paintings establish a dialogue with the landscape, memory and symbolism of the Alhambra and the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation. Through a symbolic and evocative language, the artist offers a personal vision of these spaces.
During the presentation, Rodrigo Ruiz-Jiménez, Director of the Alhambra and Generalife Council, highlighted the collaboration between both institutions. He explained that this initiative supports contemporary artistic creation. He also recalled the spirit of the historic landscape scholarships, which supported several generations of artists.
Íñigo Entrala, Director of the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation, explained that the exhibition recognises Eduardo Roca’s artistic career. The artist received a scholarship from the Foundation in 2004. That same year, other artists also took part in the programme, including David Martínez, Miguel Ángel Moreno Carretero and Salvador Antúnez. Granada became an important source of inspiration for all of them thanks to its rich landscape and cultural environment.
Eduardo Roca currently lives in Austria. During the presentation, he described the exhibition as a "dreamed-of return" to Granada. His imaginary landscapes incorporate architectural elements from the Alhambra and the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation. Through these elements, he creates parallel worlds open to each visitor’s interpretation.
The series presented in the exhibition reinterprets real places from a symbolic and emotional perspective. The Alhambra appears without human figures. The spaces are open and silent. Some works create a dreamlike atmosphere, while others have a more dystopian character.
Art critic Pedro J. Lapeña Rey describes the artist’s work as follows:
"He does not seek visual accuracy, but rather the inner essence of the landscape. His works are spaces of memory, light and silence that invite viewers to stop time and inhabit the scene."
