The Gilded Room (Cuarto Dorado) is so called because of the painted Mudejar style of its coffered ceiling. It as built by order of Mohammed V and belongs to the Comares Palace (Palacio de Comares). At the entrance there is a portico with three arches on columns with marble capitals from the 12th century. On the left, a little arch connects with the Mexuar and, at the back, another arch decorated with mocarabes and latticework and with two little arches on the sides. The middle arch leads to a little room, covered by interlacing coffered ceiling with Gothic paintings, the coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs and their emblems. On the front wall of the hall there is a balcony divided by a column with Christian capital under a frieze of mocarabes. The capital is decorated with the royal emblems already mentioned.
